On Wednesday, while describing the horrific attempted massacre that left Steve Scalise, a well-respected five-term Republican from Louisiana, in critical condition for days, the FBI labeled it as “spontaneous.” The 66-year-old radical leftist and fervent hater of Republicans James T. Hodgkinson carried out said shooting last week during practice for the Congressional Baseball Game practice in Alexandria, Virginia.
Tim Slater, the special agent leading the FBI’s Washington Field Office Criminal Division, said “At this point in the investigation, it appears more spontaneous.” This is pure garbage. This so-called spontaneous attempted massacre of Republicans was in fact entirely premeditated and planned.
Let’s look at the facts.
The gunman was a frequent user of social media in order to voice his unhinged political opinions and contentions with right-wingers. One Facebook post reads, “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.” That’s just one of the many examples James T. Hodgkinson used violent rhetoric to purvey his beliefs. In addition to social media, it was also confirmed by the FBI Hodgkinson also was in possession of a slip of paper containing the names of six Congressmen on it. Unsurprisingly, all Republican, ardent conservative names. It was also confirmed that Hodgkinson managed to photograph the baseball field where the Republicans would later practice on prior to his shooting. The FBI wholly and with a lack of common sense dismissed this. Hodgkinson appeared at the ball field armed with an SKS 7.62mm caliber rifle and a 9mm handgun accompanied by a somewhat significant amount of ammunition. After all, he managed to fire off a whopping 60 shots before being taken down by Scalise’s security detail. The last nail driven into the coffin of confirmed premeditation was, of course, the fact that the gunman asked whether it was “Republicans or Democrats” playing on the field.
Given the facts as mentioned earlier, it should become obvious to anybody with common sense present that the shooting of Representative Scalise and the attempted massacre carried out by James T. Hodgkinson was a planned crime fueled by his contempt for the right-wing. The fact that the FBI refuses to recognize that is equivalent to them spitting in the face of Americans.
What if the victim of the shooting wasn’t a famed Republican Representative, but rather an FBI agent, and the shooter a person who had scoped out and photographed the FBI’s prospective location of congregation, had a social media footprint that espoused a violent hatred of the FBI, had the names of FBI agents written on a piece of paper, and asked if the location contained members of the FBI or the CIA before firing off 60 shots? Would the FBI then react differently? What if it were Democrats on the field that got shot at by a right-winger? It’s hard to say whether the FBI would respond differently, but given the recent politicization of the Bureau as a whole, a change in their determination of the planfulness of the shooting wouldn’t be surprising.
